This curious little kitten is stepping out onto her porch, enjoying the early morning summer sun. She wants to see what is going on in her flower gardens this morning. Maybe she will be able to find a little ladybug crawling along a leaf or a beautiful orange question mark butterfly fluttering by the porch to say hello. Looking out into the gardens, what else can this curious kitten find?
This is the story I was thinking about as I was sketching up my idea for this paper sculpture kitten. What is her habitat like — living in a quaint cottage in the countryside, smelling the flowers in the morning sun, seeing all the colorful flowers right from the comforts of her porch. What a lucky little kitten she is. Everything is right there in front of her waiting to explore. Yet she is safe and warm and comfy — because this is home.
I often create stories about the characters I am paper sculpting while sketching out my idea. I rarely share any of these thoughts or ideas about my characters. But I have decided to start sharing more of these stories as I create and share the habitats that are all around us. t’s a great reminder to stop and notice the little things we “see” everyday but we tend to walk right past. Such as the life of a curious kitten.
I am hoping these little characters and the habitats they live in will make people happy and give you something to share with someone else you love. Make up your own stories about the characters to bring out a few smiles and reminders of home and family. What story comes to mind when you look at this “Curious Kitten”?
The kitten and everything you see around her are made from paper sculpture and set in a handmade wooden shadowbox frame. The frame measures 10.75” x 8.5” x 2.5”.
